We love it when NPR listeners and PBS viewers create one last great chapter for their cars, and their favorite stations!
Take Dominic Albanese and his flame-painted VW. He took his VW all over the U.S., living the dream. And when it came time to say goodbye, he wanted to fulfill one last dream and support his favorite programs at WYPR. Here's his story.
P.S.: Dominic even created a photo diary of his adventures! Check it out.
Dear Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program,
Your tow guys just picked up my old VW that I donated, and I wanted to give the brief backstory to my favorite car.
I bought the car in 2008 with 267,000 miles on it and no working engine. I had a dream to convert the car to run off vegetable oil and go on a cross-country road trip. (Such are our mid-twenties dreams!)
With the help of my co-workers, we got it running. First on diesel, and then 12 hours before my scheduled departure date, on vegetable oil!
Four paint jobs, hundreds of thousands of miles, and five cross country trips later it is time to say goodbye. While it was not always completely reliable, it reliably provide the stories I remember most.
I even created an online journal of my adventures:
Good bye VW
This car was always a source of great stories, so it is a fitting ending for its last act to be supporting other great stories like yours at NPR and our local WYPR in Baltimore MD.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
